The IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) provide International Standards and Conformity Assessment for all electrical, electronic and related technologies.

The International Electrotechnical Commission is a leading global organization that publishes consensus-based International Standards.

It manages conformity assessment systems for electric and electronic products, systems and services, collectively known as electrotechnology.

IEC publications serve as a basis for national standardization and as references when drafting international tenders and contracts.

The main standard for conformal coating is IEC 61086-1 ed2.0 Coatings for loaded printed wire boards (conformal coatings) – Part 1: Definitions, classification and general requirements

The standard gives the definitions, classification and general requirements for electrical insulating materials suitable for application as coatings for loaded printed wire boards (conformal coatings).

This standard excludes requirements for compatibility between such coatings and printed wire boards, this characteristic being evaluated in individual applications.
